About Apache Synapse and WSO2 ESB
The Apache Synapse ESB is a free and open source ESB from the Apache Software Foundation - available under the Apache Software License v2.0. It is widely used by many of the leading commercial and governmental organizations around the world. It has been proven to easily outperform the leading commercial and open source alternatives and is based on a lightweight and asynchronous core. It gains excellent performance using the Apache HttpComponents libraries based on Java NIO, and the Apache AXIOM streaming XML support, and supports legacy systems integration as well as SOAP 1.1/1.2 over non-blocking HTTP/HTTPS, JMS 1.0.x upwards, SFTP/FTP, zip/tar/gz/jar, file, POP3/IMAP/SMTP, etc. and will soon support the Financial Information eXchange (FIX) Protocol, the Advanced Message Queuing Protocol, and the binary Web service protocol Hessian
The WSO2 ESB is built on top of the Apache Synapse ESB, and is again a free and open source ESB available under the same Apache Software License v2.0. All development activities of the WSO2 ESB takes place openly (e.g. SVN, JIRA, mailing lists, Wiki...), and all code used by the WSO2 ESB is open and available anyone and everyone - unlike with some other ESB's that offers some of the features only with paid commercial versions! The WSO2 ESB provides a web based graphical UI for administration and monitoring, as well as support for JMX. It ships with a built-in integrated Registry/Repository and can be integrated with the open source WSO2 Registry.
